Havana Club

Munich, Germany

In the University area of the city.

The décor features signature slow-moving ceiling fans that circulate the smoky air around the bar, where dim lights glint off the vast array of rum and whiskey bottles that line the shelves.

Funky lounge and Latin music provides the backdrop for the cool conversation of the posh young crowd perched on red velvet sofas, sipping specialty drinks and smoking Cuban cigars.

There’s a certain mystique about Havana Club, and though the vibe is swanky and smooth, patrons can’t help but be caught up in its quiet energy – a notion that's obvious in the vibrant singles scene that also flourishes here.

We like the very colorful university area of Munich, close to the Englisher Park, and quite affordable. Our room was next to the bar, and the hotel offered a very continental breakfast, covered in the hotel fare, which included 8 cheeses, 5 breads, many meats, multiple coffees and teas, and eggs.

The bar was open quite late. I left at 2 am, and it was still serving. Cuban cigars were the choice here, and I included a black Russian or two. As is typical, I sat on the veranda under an awning as I wrote. Rain drizzled down and slowed street traffic and the sidewalk crowd. Beautiful city in the quiet of rain and tinkling ice behind me in the bar. I am looking for the correct pic, as this is not it, but it is similar.
